The house on Acacia Ave in Carlsbad, probably 1976 or 1977. All apartments and condos now. Pretty respectively dressed, must have come back from a job interview.
I'm sitting on the roof of the Acacia house just after sunset.
Mark Kerwin's house across the street. David and Debbie Seagraves next door.
The center of life was the ocean at the end of the street. There were ice plant covered bluffs and patches of bamboo. We would surf here, kids would play here and older kids and real old kids could hang out here. Every evening, locals would come down to the beach at sunset with a couple of tall boys, watch the sunset, check the surf and catch up with the neighbors.
This is the same "beach" ten years later, looking from the opposite direction. The beach, and bluffs, are for the most part, gone. There is a seawall and the sea comes up to the wall. Not too much beach life with no beach.
