Georgetown, Colorado. 8,530 feet in the Colorado Rockies. A boom town during the Gold Rush but more famous for silver, it was home for about a thousand people at the time.
Home Sweet Home in Georgetown. My 1954 Willys looked like death but there was no more reliable vehicle in the harsh high altitude winter weather.
All the comforts of home. Reel to reel tape deck, rifle, beach chair; everything needed for mountain living.
I was here to work for Harrison Western construction company that was doing dangerous, heavy duty construction work at Henderson Mine. We built the tall structure on the right, just below the trees. It is a ventilation and escape shaft that is over a thousand feet deep.

Henderson mine is at 10,300 feet, a mile from the Continential Divide. We worked there all winter long through bitter cold and extreme snowfall. It was dangerous work and a dangerous commute from Georgetown.
